Going bald is a traumatic experience for most of us. In many cultures hair, and different hairstyles, are some of the criteria people use to determine if someone is ‘beautiful’ or not. Therefore, it is not strange that many people feel extremely upset when they notice they are losing their hair. Social stigmas make this worse for females than for men. The cost is very high, so it’s not an option for those of us working for a small salary.
Depending on your age, the extent of your baldness and your personal preferences, there are a few other alternatives available.
Certain types of medication, for example Minoxidil and finasteride have been proven to be beneficial to many people. Corticosteroid injections can be given to a patient who suffers from sudden, inexplicable hair loss (a condition called alopecia areata).
If hair loss is not associated with aging, but caused by an underlying condition, the first step should be to treat that underlying condition.
